From the moment he arrived in this country in 1928 to be vocalist in Fred Elizalde 's Savoy Hotel Band, Al Bowlly was destined for enormous popularity. He has sung with many dance bands, but listeners will best remember him for the long period during which he worked regularly with Lew Stone. His death by enemy action in April robbed British dance music of one of its most talented figures.
