Barry Bucknell's weekly do-it-yourself TV guide to jobs in the home.

The old attic is tiny, dark, and cold. The first thing to do is to get more light into the dark corners - this is done by fitting a lay-light in the roof. Then, to make the room bigger, the walls have to be pushed back. And to make it warmer, the roof has to be insulated (which will also keep it cool in summer). The water tank and the pipes have to be lagged before winter really gets hold of them.
