Harold Eastwood and his wife Maisie travel through Alaska to its westernmost point near the Arctic Circle - the Diomede Islands inhabited by hardy Eskimos. On their way they come across sea otters, once almost exterminated by the Russians for their valuable fur, and rivers teeming with salmon. There are anxious moments as their umiak gets lost in the fog on the International Date Line, and they nearly end up in Siberia.
