An excerpt from the Gala Performance which opens the 1958 tenting season.
Presenting a galaxy of international artists with Sid Phillips and his Band
Arranged by Ronnie Smart and introduced by his wife, Kay
Presented for television direct from Ipswich, the first tober of the tour by Derek Burrell-Davis

An excerpt from the Gala Performance at Ipswich which opens Billy Smart's 1958 tenting season,
By 7.30 tonight the big top will once again be the heart of a colourful international family destined to live and travel together for nine months, and, by its gifts of skill, daring and humour to bring the magic of the ring into towns throughout the land. This magic has been conducted during the past three months deep in the country near Royal Windsor, as wagons, props and caging have been repaired and painted and new acts trained. During these few months those wizards of circus magic, the Smart family, have travelled far from their winter quarters searching for new ingredients with which to hold spell-bound the knowledgeable circus-going public. Some of their finds you will see tonight. D. B-D.
At 7.30
