Peter Scott discusses a film of H.M.C.S. Labrador with Commander J.M. Leeming, R.C.N.

The story of the North-West Passage is the story of the many daring attempts to find a free deep-water channel between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans round the North of Canada.

From the seventeenth century onwards many attempts were made. Two of the most famous of these expeditions were those of Parry in 1819 and later, in 1845, of Franklin, who died making the attempt. After Amundsen's successful voyage in 1903 the first passage from West to East was made in 1940 by Henry Larsen in St. Roch - a Royal Canadian Mounted Police boat. The first naval vessel to go through was H.M.C.S. Labrador in 1954.
