Headhunters of South America
Bertrand Flornoy, the French explorer, describes some of his experiences among the primitive Jivaro Indians in the regions of the Upper Amazon. The strange practices of these uncivilised people are shown in his own films. Introduced by John Brown.
at 9.45
Bertrand Flornoy was born in Paris on March 27, 1910. In 1937-8 and 1941-2 he led parties to the Upper Amazon and during 1947-52 he was in charge of three expeditions to the Amazonian regions. These expeditions were sponsored by such bodies as the French Museum of Natural History, the Geographical Society of Paris, and the Musee de l'Homme.
During his travels M. Flornoy visited the Amazon from the source to the mouth - reaching the source in November 1941-and the Amazonian territories of Peru, Ecuador, and Brazil.
