Carroll Gibbons, as listeners to his lazy drawl must know, is an American. He was born in Massachusetts in 1903 After studying music in Boston and playing the piano with a number of American combinations, he crossed the Atlantic in the company of Joe Brannelly and Rudy Vallee to begin his long association with the Savoy Bands. In addition to his signature tune 'On the Air', he has written 'While My Pretty One Sleeps', 'Garden in the Rain', and, with Rudy Vallee, 'My Cigarette Lady'.

Today viewers will see as well as hear one of the most remarkable raconteurs the BBC has introduced to the public. He is a broadcaster who made his name with his first talk and he has added to his reputation with each succeeding one. Commander Campbell disdains the use of a script and talks into the microphone just as he talks to friends at his club. The result is delightful. He is a man with a distinguished war career on the sea, and altogether - he is now a publisher - his life has been an ideal one for a born talker such as he is. He has been in every part of the world, including the Arctic and Antarctic Circles, and has a happy knack of describing vividly the strange personalities and places he has seen.

There are few things in the theatre world that Peter Godfrey has not done. He is thirty-seven years of age and has been a successful actor since 1915 when he appeared at Aldershot in a music-hall sketch. Afterwards he played in a great number of melodramas and in repertory, and he also appeared with a circus in Ireland. His London debut was at the Everyman Theatre in 1921 as Smith in "The Second Round". In 1925 he founded the Gate Theatre. As a producer he has handled well over three hundred plays, including "Ghosts", "The Hairy Ape", "Ten Nights in a Bar Room", "Peer Gynt", and "Murder". He played important parts in many of these productions. He is also the author of two plays and has directed two films.
