With vintage amps, mics and mixing desks from Abbey Road, it's a place for artists seeking to recreate the sound of yesteryear and record the way Elvis, Roy Orbison and Tammy Wynette did. 

Pete tours ToeRag, hears Liam's story and talks to those who have recorded there, including The White Stripes, Madness, Hugh Cornwell, James Hunter and Supergrass.

A rock nerd's special in which Pete Mitchell tells the story of Toe Rag Studios, set up by Liam Watson and Josh Collins in east London's Hackney in 1991. A strictly analogue enterprise now run by Watson alone, Toe Rag uses only pre-1960 studio equipment. 
Recorded at Toe Rag in two weeks, the White Stripes' ultra-hip 2003 long-player Elephant provided the label with a number-one album, and established Toe Rag as a trendy antidote to digital music-making. Pete talks to Toe Rag clients the White Stripes, Madness,
