1/3. To mark the 20th anniversary of the death of flamboyant Polish-Italian-American pianist and entertainer Liberace (born Wladziu Valentino Liberace), Russell Davies presents a glitter-rich celebration of the quintessentially camp fixture of 50s and 60s stage and screen who later emerged as a Las Vegas superstar and a restaurateur.
Cheery, dignified and accessorisec to the hilt by dazzle, diamonds, fur and candelabras, Liberace always denied being homosexual despite certain seemingly obvious signs. In February 1987 he died, aged 67, of Aids-related illnesses. Recalling the life of the sequined star are comedian Phyllis Diller, Liberace's designer/fur-maker, Anna Nateece, and his long-time manager's widow (Billie Heller) and daughter (Liz Heller). Plus input from those associated with the Liberace Museum, including tribute performer Wes Winters.
A broad selection of new, old, familiar and obscure records.
