Norman Wisdom pays tribute to Stan Laurel (born Arthur Stanley Jefferson in Lancashire) and Oliver Hardy (born Norvell Hardy in Harlem, Georgia), whose on-screen double act from the mid-1920s onwards earned them the title of arguably the greatest of all Hollywood comedy duos. An acquired taste for some, they combined immaculately executed slapstick with relentlessly dopey dialogue to unusually poignant effect. Among those discussing their legacy are Jean Darling (who acted in their 1934 feature Babes in Toyland), Ken Dodd, Alex Norton, writer Neil Brand and, in an archive interview, Peter Cushing.
