In anticipation of the Eurovision Song Contest on 11 May, Steve Lamacq assesses the state of popular music in France, Spain and Germany (the other three members of Eurovision's "Big Four"). Given our consistent ridiculing of continental pop, Lamacq searches for French, Spanish and German records that might actually appeal to a British sensibility, and explores the impact of radio quotas and the attempts at cultural preservation abroad.
