Author Vikram Seth talks to Matthew Sweet about Two Lives - his portrait of the 60-year-long relationship between his great-uncle Shanti and a German-Jewish woman, Henny. In the 1930s Shanti travelled to Berlin to study dentistry.
Henny's first reaction to the news that Shanti would be lodging with them was: "Don't take the black man". Seth's book is a subtle exploration of the complexities of love between two exiles finding kinship across racial and cultural divides. Producer Phil Tinline
