In this second of two programmes on the singer and pianist Leroy Carr ,
Francis Wilford-Smith describes how heavy drinking led to Carr's death in 1935, when he was only 30 years old. But impending death only increased the poignancy of his blues. On his final recording session he was deserted even by his old partner, the guitarist Scrapper Blackwell.
