Dame Ninette de Valois, founder of the Royal Ballet and the Royal Ballet School: 'I shall wander a little, but not too far from the ballet scene. As a very young girl I wanted to be a pianist. My mother who was a singer found that I was "a born accompanist." This meant frequent summonses to play for her and so I decided to be a dancer!'
