Perry was one of the most remarkable producers to emerge in the mid-60s. His first production of any note was the album "Safe as milk" for Captain Beefheart, but his productions with Tiny Tim in the late 60s allowed his theatrical approach free rein and drew attention to his growing presence.
He was responsible for introducing the first all girl rock band Fanny, helped breathe new life into Barbra Streisand's career and gave the errant Harry Nilsson his greatest success. In the early 70s he created major successes for Carly Simon and Ringo Starr, coming closer than anyone to achieving a Beatles reunion. He has been particularly successful in helping to promote a series of female artists to chart success and currently regards The Pointer Sisters as the flagship of his production operation. His projects cover a wider range than perhaps any other producer in this series and he rates as one of the most outstanding contemporary producers in the United States.
