Andrew is the son of conscientious American citizens, instilled with a sense of moral ideals and duty to his family and country. He aims to pursue politics as a career in order to change the world for a better place. Melissa is the daughter of upper-middle class WASP parents who live in a vast mansion, have too much money and drink too much. Melissa is a flirt, a drinker and a failure at marriage, and Andrew is her only anchor. The story of their lifelong, bittersweet relationship unfolds from their correspondence - from what is written and also from what is left unsaid.
