"You go in - you never come out" is the local name for the Taklamakan Desert in western China. Fifteen months ago, a team of British and Chinese explorers set out with their camels to make the first crossing of the so-called Desert of Death, 780 miles of uninterrupted sand where at the start, daytime temperatures soared to over 100 degrees, falling well below freezing by the end. Despite serious illness, life-threatening lack of water and discord among the team, they completed their crossing. Recorded by the men and women who made it. this is the story of their epic journey.
