Since it opened five years ago, the National Museum of Photography. Film and Television in Bradford has doubled its number of visitors. The pioneering Photographers' Gallery in London has enlarged its premises four-fold since 1971, and the turnover of prints and attendance has also doubled over the last five years.
Photographs are also finding their way into mainstream art galleries. John Russell Taylor investigates the rise of photography and the way it has clicked with the public and the art market.
