Among many bequests, the late Mr Monty Friedman has left "Portrait of a Young Man", Italian school circa 1500, to a Ms Gertrude Lucinda Snape - known to her intimate admirers as Trudi. Mrs Friedman is not best pleased. Vernon Clench-Blaise, the well-known art dealer, couldn't care less until he discovers the painting is actually the work of Leonardo da Vinci.

This year more than one billion viewers in 77 countries tuned in to the film industry's premier award ceremony, the Oscars. But why do people choose to watch the elite of the movie business being feted by their peers? More and more companies are sponsoring awards so what is in it for them? Is it purely an image-building exercise? There are awards for art, for literature and, some of the most controversial awards of all, those for political and public service, the Honours. But when do prizes become awards and when do awards become Honours?
