In 1956 Gordon Cooper was among the youngsters at
Ellison Street Junior School photographed after passing their 11-plus exam.
This year they will be 40.
Brought up on free milk and orange juice, they were the promise of post-war Britain - but what kind of people did that promise produce?
In the last of four programmes Gordon talks to his class-mates about their family lives, and asks sociologist Lesley Rimmer how typical their experiences have been.

A Passage to Belfast
'Belfast stands no nonsense and lies at the head of Belfast Lough. In all our far-flung Empire one could scarcely find a city which stood nonsense less.'
So said the novelist E. M.
Forster. His observation was based on a number of visits from 1912 until his last stay in 1952. He was then unveiling a memorial to his friend Forrest Reid, the writer whose work he greatly admired.
Wesley McCann uncovers
Forster's impressions of Belfast. Producer KATHRYN PORTER
(First broadcast on Radio Ulster)
