A portrait of u. w TILMAN with Anthony Bate as ' Bill . Tilman
On 1 November 1977 the En Avant, a steel tug converted to a gaff-nggea cutter, sailed from Rio for the Falkland Islands. She never reached her destination. Neither the En Avant nor any of her crew were heard of again. Among those on board had been a short, tough, wiry man of nearly 80, with a sharp, weather-beaten face. His name was H. W. Tilman. John Snelling presents a portrait of this remarkable man who, for almost 60 years, led a life of adventure and exploration. Producer JOHN knight i Broadcast Tues 8.20 pm) lung wave only
