by Laurence Housman
Adapted by Glyn Dearman

1839: Queen Victoria has been on the throne almost two years and her Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne, feels the time is ripe to raise the delicate subject of suitable suitors for her hand. There is only one man Victoria wants to marry: Albert of Saxe-Coburg Gotha. She believes he will make the ideal husband - once he has been made fully aware of exactly what sacrifices are expected of him when married to the Queen of England. But Albert has his own ideas of what his position should be, both in public and in private.
