From the Gorbals to Gweedore
From the late 19th century until the mid-20th century, the young people of Donegal left their homes in the spring and summer to work at the ' tattie howkin ' and other seasonal occupations in the Scottish lowlands.
Later, the men tramped the roads seeking better money in the dams, tunnels and roads of the Highlands. Eventually some 200,000 or more were drawn into Glasgow and Gorbals became the ' capital ' of Donegal.
