' A few hours later, my mother returned. And it was a miracle because nobody returned. And my mother said it was Wallenberg.'
There were lots of decent people, who were more than bystanders, who tried to hide people and to rescue them. But what Raoul Wallenberg did was to confront the Nazis face to face and to retrieve people who were already in their clutches. This was totally unheard of.' Is the Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Hungarian Jews during the last year of the War still alive in a Soviet prison despite Russia's denial of his existence? David Wheeler talks to the hero's family and colleagues, the survivors and campaigners, and argues that Wallenberg, now 67, is still awaiting release from arrest without charges 35 years ago.

A series of talks for Lent 5: From Africa
'Africa has taught me,' says Dr Colin Morris , former President of the Church in Zambia, ' that the Kingdom of God is not for the conventionally good, but for the utterly desperate.'
Questions for discussion after the programme:
1: It is estimated that by the year 2000 there will be more Christians in Africa than in the whole of the rest of the world. Why?
2: The Christian Gospel was first preached to an agricultural community. Does this explain why it seems to strike home to the African people much more effectively than to the industrialised Westerner?
3: Can Christianity be described as a world faith? Introduced by Colin Semper

The Temples are Saved
Twenty years ago the ancient temples and monuments of Abu Simbel in Upper Egypt were threatened by the waters of the Aswan High Dam. After massive financial contributions and technical expertise from many countries of the world the temples have now been saved. A few days ago a ceremony on the Island of Philae marked the end of this unprecedented enterprise. Presented by Malcolm Billings
