A portrait of the singer Lotte Lehmann (1885-1976) compiled and presented by Carole Rosen
'You have no voice, you have no talent, you have no looks, and it is much better that you forget about singing.'
This good 'advice' was given to Lotte Lehmann by a famous teacher in Berlin. Luckily, it went unheeded and Madame Lehmann soon made a name for herself, particularly in the operas of Richard Strauss, going on to become one of the most famous sopranos of her time. After the Second World War she became equally well known as a teacher and her Master Classes are legendary.
Her story is now told with illlustrations from some of her many gramophone records.
