An eccentric, philanthropic multi-millionairess of the interwar years, Lady Houston's love of country was matched only by her hatred of Socialism. Among the many causes she sponsored was the Schneider Trophy Air Race of 1931, which resulted in the development of the Spitfire fighters. and which has earned her the title of 'One of the Few'.
