Technological husbandry is slowly and surely bringing wealth to upland Britain, and changing its look at the same time. Forests encroach near the top of rocky peaks and bright patches of pasture support twice as many sheep as previously. The forest brings tourist amenities too, and the combination of sheep farming, forestry and leisure provides work and homes for local communities which might otherwise dwindle away - but who Is pumping in the money and bright ideas so necessary to make these schemes successful?
