5: The Ship that Wrecked a City based on The Town that Died by MICHAEL J .BIRD
In 1917 the port of Halifax, Nova Scotia was a tightly-knit town of 50.000 people, grouped around a narrow channel. On 6 December the ammunition ship Mont Blanc, carrying 5,000 tons of high explosives, steamed up that channel. Coming the other way, on the same side, was another ship, the Imo. The conditions were perfect for the worst disaster in naval history.
