A series in which current and controversial issues are put on trial before, this week, Louis Blom-Cooper , qc, jp and an audience of jurors in Broadcasting House, London. This evening's proposition:
Community radio can best be provided by a new Local Broadcasting Authority. It is proposed by Phillip Whitehead , mp (Labour), a member of the Annan Committee on The Future of Broadcasting; and opposed by Sir Paul Bryan , mp (Conservative), Director of Greater Manchester Radio Ltd, and formerly Conservative Spokesman on broadcasting.
Each advocate will call his witnesses, cross-question his opponent's, and argue his case. The jury will vote at the beginming and end of the trial so that a swing of opinion may be measured and a verdict reached. Producer HUGH PURCELL

A comedy for radio by Edna Nadler
with Rosemary Martin as Rita and Pat Heywood as Daphne

Rita and Daphne's peaceful existence is shattered when, for her 45th birthday, Rita's mother pays for her enrolment with a computer dating organisation in the hopes that, at last, Rita will find Mr Right. Rita is enthusiastic, Daphne more sceptical...
'Don't you see, this system eliminates all the time-consuming formalities of getting to know the casual acquaintance you might meet at a club, party. Think of the enormous scope it offers, the element of adventure. Think of the unknown!'
'Think of the shocks.'

The Limits of Licence
Presented by John Eidinow
The Government is setting up a major committee of inquiry to review current attitudes to obscenity, pornography, and censorship, and the legislation which affects them.
There are those who argue that artistic freedom is already being curtailed. Others see dangers in unbridled licence. Most are agreed that the law as it stands is discredited and abused.
How are standards established and by whom? Can the law cope with matters of taste and morality?
