Over 7,000 deaths and more than 110,000 serious injuries - those are the latest annual figures for accidents in the home. The need for first aid is self-evident, but how confident are you of being able to apply it when an accident happens at home?
You can put your auestions or relate your experiences to Dr Robert Andrew, a GP with a special interest in first-aid education, and Richard Herring lecturer in first aid for the St John Ambulance Association.

The Story of the Home Guard
More than a million-and-a-half strong at its peak. the Home Guard was Britain's strangestever army. Created almost overnight, as the Local Defence Volunteers, in 1940. stood down. with little glory, in 1944, it is best remembered nowadays because of a television comedy series
What was the reality behind the Dad's Army legend? What was the military value of the Home Guard, not only in 1940 but later in the war, when it was well-armed and well-trained?
Contributors include Lord Avon who. as Anthony Eden. called the LDV into existence: Lord Bridgeman. Director General of the Home Guard from 1941: and some of the officers and men who. in the official words ' gave generously of their time and powers ' to serve it.
