On 3 July 1940 the Royal Navy attacked and largely destroyed the French Fleet as it lay at its moorings in the harbour of Mers-el-Kebir.
Warren Tute traces the events which tragically and inevitably led to this confrontation which the French regarded as murderous aggression and the British as a grim but unavoidable necessity.
With CAPITAINE BERNARD DUFAY ; CAPTAIN G. H. PETERS , DSC, RN; COMMANDER W. J. FARRELL , OBE, DSC. RN; REAR ADMIRAL T. L. EDDISON , CB, DSO; and the recorded voice of WINSTON
CHURCHILL.

"There are some parents who need their children, but there are some children who do not need their parents - they need something much better"
(Raissa Page, Association of British Adoption Agencies)

Cruelty, neglect, mental instability and quarrels over custody constitute family life for thousands of children. And yet there is no system for representing the rights of children if parents, their natural guardians, fail to fulfil their obligations.
Analysis examines the deficiencies in the laws safeguarding the welfare of children. Do local authorities use the power they have to provide care and protection? Should children at risk have their own advocate or be under the jurisdiction of a special court? Would a Guardian for Children threaten parents' rights?
