The aim of European monetary union by 1980 now seems over-ambitious. The arrangement of an international monetary system, not vulnerable to continual and damaging speculation, seems more than national governments and the IMF can yet achieve.
Peter Oppenheimer, of Christ Church. Oxford, presents some views on the present confusion, and on the kind of order which might be brought out of it.
Contributors include Herbert Stein, chairman of President Nixon's Council of Economic Advisers.
