1892-1948
Another chance to hear this biographical appreciation of one of the most celebrated tenors of this century, who died 25 years ago.
DAVID MARCH reads from the memoirs of his widow DIANA NAPIER TAUBER , with narration compiled and read by ALAN BLYTH.
'Richard had a rare charm and personality,' Diana wrote, 'and an infectious zeal for every part he played.
Some of his famous roles are illustrated by gramophone records: 'You are my heart's delight,' 'My heart and I,' operatic arias by Mozart and Bizet, and of course, the songs from operetta that made Franz Lehar describe Tauber's voice as ' the most beautiful and soulful voice I know.'
