Among the films likely to make an impact tonight are Martin Scorsese's The Aviator with 14 nominations, Finding Neverland with 12, and Vera Drake with 11, including one for the film's British director Mike Leigh. Other home-grown hopefuls include Kate Winslet and Imelda Staunton, who between them received three nominations in the Actress in a Leading Role category. A host of famous faces, including Juliette Lewis, Cate Blanchett, Pierce Brosnan and Sienna Miller will be presenting the awards. The Baftas have traditionally taken place on a Sunday night but this year they've moved to Saturday - what better night for a glamorous movie bash packed with celebs? Kate Winslet will be competing not only against Imelda Staunton for Vera Drake but against herself in the best actress category, as she's been nominated for both Finding Neverland and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. But the night could belong to director Martin Scorsese and his Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator, which is shortlisted in a whopping 14 categories. As usual, Stephen Fry will host the event, in his nicely sardonic way. (David Butcher)
