Britain are the defending champions in the men's event, two victories in the 4xl00m and 4x400m relays 12 months ago giving them a narrow victory over the talented Germans. Their success also earned them qualification for the World Cup in Johannesburg at the end of last summer, where they finished sixth overall as many athletes opted to miss the event to concentrate on the Commonwealth Games. The British women will be looking to improve their performance on last year when they finished in fifth position in St Petersburg. Helen Rollason introduces today's action, with help from Linford Christie and Sally Gunnell.
