The documentary series about the real world of intensive care.
Retired nurse Barbara has a potentially fatal chest infection, but she is 80 years old and has a history of weak lungs; some would argue that there would be no point in admitting her to intensive care. Jim, a builder, has fallen from a scaffold and needs to be admitted to survive the next few hours.
After two days, however, he shows no sign of recovery. Tonight, the consultants talk about the difficult decisions they must make: who should be treated, and how long treatment should last.
