Raymond Baxter reports on the 1974 World Cup Rally
The morning after the Cup Final, ANDREW COWAN , INNES IRELAND, ERIC JACKSON and STIRLING MOSS were among the drivers of 70 cars which set out from Wembley Stadium to drive 10,000 miles through 14 countries of Europe, Africa and Asia, in a race to reach Munich in time for the World Cup kick-off this week. The route crossed the Sahara twice. The cars included Jeeps, Range Rovers, a 1957 Hillman Minx and a 1930 Bentley Tourer. This shows what happened to the starters and survivors of a great motoring adventure with a million pounds at stake in cars, crews, and prizes.

A British Methodist with wide experience of multi-racial communities. A distinguished Islamic scholar, he is concerned with dialogue with people of other living faiths and ideologies, and in his view Western Christianity has some painful lessons to learn: 'The Church, in its terror of syncretism, is in danger of swinging the other way - into what I call ghettoism.'
