Starring John Mills, Eric Portman
The original feature film based on one of the most famous escape stories of World War II. John Mills stars as Captain Pat Reid, the British officer who master-minds a daring escape bid from the heavily guarded fortress of Colditz Castle.
The Colditz Story was based on the best-selling book by Capt Pat Reid. Last autumn he returned to the castle with Radio Times at the start of the last BBC1 series of Colditz.
He said then: "I would have gone off my rocker if I hadn't escaped, I had to get out. The trouble was that once you had escaped and got out of the place, the smell of the fresh air was so different, so good that when you were brought back you would make up your mind you would have another crack, by God.'

Impeccable. A goose-pimpling ghost Story. (THE GUARDIAN) James's ghost stories are the best written in English because his ghosts ... are real and horrible, and the ghosts in Lost Hearts are more horrible than most. The direction matched James's skill. <THE SPECTATOR) Producer ROSEMARY HILL
