A discussion of Paul van Buren 's thesis about ' the secular meaning of the gospel' between
BERNARD WILLIAMS of the Department of Philosophy, University College, London
ALASDAIR MACINTYRE
Fellow of University College, Oxford
THE REV. GERALD DOWNING , of Lincoln Theological College and FR. BARNABAS, S.S.F.
Paul van Buren is a young Episcopal clergyman who teaches theology at a Seminary in Austin, Texas. In his book. The Secular Meaning of the Gospel, he contends that the Christian message can be fully presented to modern secular man without metaphysics and without any talk of ' God.'
Two sceptical philosophers and two Anglican theologians take a close look at this radical and seemingly odd proposition
