† by RONALD DAVEY
Corot's figure paintings and studies from nature were not generally exhibited in his lifetime. Since the 'twenties these have been more highly regarded than the romantic landscapes which established his fame.
Ronald Davey , Lecturer in the History of Art at the University of Newcastle on Tyne, questions the idea, implied by some of his modern critics, that Corot may be regarded as a man of diminished artistic responsibility.
An exhibition of Corot's work Is on view at the Marlborough Gallery.

Uneasy Terms by J. W. A. THORNELY ,
Fellow of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge
If a hire-purchase agreement is ended prematurely, the hirer who ends it honestly often pays more than one who keeps the goods without paying and lets the owner end it. Thornely examines some recent cases and suggests what should be done. He also looks critically at the Molony Committee's proposals and says what he thinks should go into the legislation expected in Parliament's coming session.
