' There stands one among you whom you do not know.' John the Baptist pointed to an ' incognito ' Christ-' an ordinary man, indistinguishable from his fellows, going on his way from life to death.' Indeed, it has always been a claim of the Christian faith that ' God is decisively revealed where so much of what one might imaginatively conceive as visible evidence for his presence is taken away.' But how can this faith be defended from the charge of irrationalism?
