Wolfgang Hildesheimer, an Israeli playwright who writes in German, is well known on the Continent as the author of plays for the theatre and for radio. To Third Programme listeners he is known for his light comedies and short stories. Under Ground, his latest radio play, uses the form of a conversation between husband and wife of which examples have been broadcast from Yugoslavia (Foot-steps in rhe Next Room) and Poland (The Other Room).
