An illustrated talk by HAROLD TRUSCOTT
Nottebohm, Bekker, and Marion Scott have established a thematic interconnection between the quartets Op. 132, 130, and 131, and in a recent talk Deryck Cooke extended this idea to include Op. 127 and 135 and suggested that the material of all five sprang from two basic ideas.
Harold Truscott believes that thematic connection was only one among many factors on which Beethoven relied to establish unity.
