For ' The Duenna,' which has elopement as its central theme. Sheridan asked his father-in-law Thomas Linley to provide the music, but Linley passed most of the work to his nineteen-year-old son Thomas. No full score of the whole opera survives. Roger Fiske has edited the younger Linley's contribution from a full manuscript score which for many years has lain virtually forgotten in the British Museum, has found orchestrated originals of some of the songs that were borrowed from Italian operas and other sources, and has scored the rest in the style of the period. Max Adrian broadcasts by permission of the Governors of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Stratlordupon-Avon: Kevin Miller. of Sadler's Wells Opera Company
