A study by Eric Rhode of L'Annee Derniere a Marienbad
Much of the controversy surrounding Alain Resnais's L'Annee Dernière a Marienbad is over whether the film has a common meaning or whether it is, of its very nature, open to an infinite number of interpretations.
Mr. Rhode argues that this problem does not exist and feels that we can come to a better understanding of the film if we see it as an elegant variation on fin de siècle themes.
