Margaret Winterflood (soprano) BANDMARGARET WINTERFLOOD BAND (Soloist, ALAN POCOCK) (Soloist, P. VINEY)
This band made its first broadcast two years ago, and this programme will be the tenth. It is not known when the Band was first started, but records show that there was a bandmaster named Rice for over forty years, and, as the present Town Silver Band was re-formed nearly sixty years ago, there must be over a century of history. In contests the Band has gained numerous awards, including the Wessex Championship for 1935 and a sectional prize at the Crystal Palace.
Alan Pocock, who is the cornet soloist in this programme, is only thirteen years of age, and has already won prizes in several open contests.
