' Wiltshire '
Edith Olivier
Edith Olivier , a distinguished novelist and biographer, who has lived in Wiltshire all her life, has made a particular study of Wessex dialect. In this talk she is going to give examples of words and phrases that are preserved only in one village or group of villages, where they keep alive the memory of some historical event of, perhaps, a thousand years ago and mark the successive races who have lived in the Wessex counties. It will be found that many of these words are often more pointed and expressive than their modern equivalents.
