Leader, FRANK THOMAS
An Appeal on behalf of THE TAUNTON AND SOMERSET HOSPITAL EXTENSION SCHEME, by Lt.-Co!.
Sir DENNIS F. BOLES , Bart., C.B.E.
The Taunton and Somerset Hospital is specially connected with Jubilees. A public meeting was held in Taunton in 1809, the fiftieth or Jubilee year of King George III , in order to start an appeal to provide hospital accommodation for West Somerset. The appeal was successful and a hospital with accommodation for twenty-six beds was opened. In 1887, the Jubilee of Queen Victoria, a Nursing Institute and Out-patients' Department were added. Although from time to time the accommodation of the hospital has been increased, this year's Jubilee sees the-need for many extensions and improvements. The hospital addresses a special plea to motorists, for the pressure on the wards is largely due to motor casualties which prevent or delay the admission of patients from the neighbourhood.
