A Service for the People

The evening services for the people on Sundays at the Colston Hall, Bristol, were started forty-seven years ago. One of the founders was Dr. Percival, first head-master of Clifton College and afterwards Bishop of Hereford. These services are held only during the winter months and the average attendance is 3,500. The President of the services is the Dean of Bristol, and the Chairman is Mr. F.A. Wilshire, well known to listeners for his many broadcasts.

The Week's Good Cause

An Appeal on behalf of The Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport by Sir John Beynon, Bart., C.B.E.

The Royal Gwent Hospital is the largest general hospital in the County of Monmouth and is supported entirely by the free-will offerings of its friends. It is situated on the main Newport-Cardiff road on sites given by the late Viscount Tredegar. Each year nearly 2,500 patients pass through the wards, while the number of attendances in the out-patients' department is nearly 100,000.

Sir John Beynon, who is a Vice-President of the Hospital, is largely interested in the iron, coal, and steel industry of South Wales. He was the High Sheriff of the County of Monmouth from 1917 to 1918.
