The competing choirs will sing selections from Brahms's Requiem
(Bydd y Corau yn canu darnau o Requiem Brahms)
Listeners will be taken over to the Eisteddfod Pavilion three times during the course of the afternoon to hear the chief choral competition. At the time of going to press it is not known what choirs will be heard or what portions of the Requiem will be selected by the adjudicators for singing in this afternoon's competition.
Eight choirs have entered for the contestâ the Pontardulais Choral Society, Ystradyfodwg, Ystalyfera and District, Merthyr and District, Llanelly, Rhondda, Berlin Philharmonic, and the Dowlais United. The works they have to prepare are Brahms's Requiem, and Hopkin Evans's Pax Aeterna.
Four of the successful choirs will take part in the evening concert, to sing the whole of the Requiem, conducted by Sir Hugh Allen.
